June 3 – July 3, 2021, LYON.
Celebrating the dynamism of the Australian Aboriginal textile art movement, the Weaving Culture exhibition presents a wide selection of creations by contemporary artists working with textiles as a medium in two very different regions of Australia: Maningrida in Arnhem Land (on the Far North Coast) and Haasts Bluff in the Red Center Desert.
Drawing inspiration from their cultures, their lands and their lives, the artists have created original patterns for their textile works, which are then printed by hand on the fabric. Embodying the artists' cultural heritage and artistic creativity, the textile works testify to the remarkable vitality and talent of these two artistic communities.
The exhibition is made up of hand-printed art fabrics, other art forms explored by the artists such as basketry, sculpture and painting, as well as a selection of textile accessories from collections. in limited edition developed in collaboration with the communities.
All works and exhibits are offered for sale, helping to support Australia's ethical and sustainable Indigenous arts sector.
