Exhibition "Painting your culture - Contemporary Aboriginal artists"

Sept. 18 – Nov. 7, 2021, LE HAVRE.

Through a selection of paintings, sculptures and painted objects, the exhibition explores how artists incorporate their culture into their works, whether in wood, ceramic or canvas, and how each object tells a story.

A wide variety of materials, techniques and media used by artists who live in different regions of Australia (central deserts, Kimberley, Arnhem Land, New South Wales) are presented, like so many vessels of culture:

Acrylic paintings, ocher paintings, watercolor paintings, wood carvings, ceramics, bark paintings, traditional objects and art jewelry.

Organized by the social enterprise IDAIA, in collaboration with the Incarnato association, the exhibition highlights works and objects rarely seen in France, from official Aboriginal artists' cooperatives, available for sale to help support the ethical and sustainable sector of Aboriginal art.

"Painting your culture", hosted in the new space of the Incarnato workshop gallery, constitutes the 3rd part of IDAIA's participation in the event "Le Havre, Australian stopover" organized by the city of Le Havre on the occasion of the program Australia now France 2021-22, after the exhibitions “Painting Now” at the Municipal Archives (10 July – 19 September 2021) and “Drawing of the Territory – Territory of Drawing” at the Jardins Suspendus (10 July – 3 September 2021).
